Analysis of Literature [Literary Textual Analysis]

This course is an introduction to literary analysis and writing applied to literary techniques, conventions, and themes. Students will learn how to write focused literary analyses, demonstrating their understanding of biographical, critical, cultural, and historical contexts of various writers and genres. Students will also learn proper documentation, as well as other skills, such as quoting, paraphrasing, and integrating sources, both primary and secondary. First course required of all English majors. Concentrates on methods of literary analysis and critical writing. (LL)

Prerequisite: 1120 or ACT English =>29 or SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing =>700.
