LING 435 / 535 (3)Examination of various outcomes of language contact from both structural and sociocultural perspectives. It surveys linguistic areas around the world. Topics include: lexical borrowing, grammatical diffusion, the genesis of pidgins, creoles, koines and mixed languages.
Prerequisite: 322 or SPAN 351.
