Bachelor of Science in Health Education

Twenty-six hours of course work are required with a 2.5 grade point average.

Two concentrations are available to students in the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Health Education degree program. The program prepares students to meet the competencies of the roles and responsibilities of the entry-level Health Educator. The School Health Education* concentration leads to eligibility to apply for teacher licensure and prepares the student to teach health in middle and secondary schools. The Community Health Education concentration is a non-teaching concentration which provides students with a broad-based introduction to community and public health and prepares them for professional practice in community health agencies, clinical settings and the work place. Both concentrations prepare students for graduate studies in Health Education at the University of New Mexico or any of the many schools of public health in the United States. In addition, a minor in School Health Education is available. Screening by Health Education faculty is a prerequisite to entering either concentration.

NOTE: Student’s course work must include the University of New Mexico core requirements and at least 40 hours of upper-division (300–level and above) credits.

Minor Study
