  a. 49 credit hours from courses offered by departments of the College of Arts and Sciences, including Core Curriculum requirements. (See Fine Arts Graduation Requirements 6.) These 49 credit hours include ENGL 220 and as many credit hours in one foreign language as are necessary to complete the fourth semester course in that language. 49

  b. 18 credit hours selected from at least two other disciplines in the College of Fine Arts (Art History, Art Studio, Fine Arts, Music, Theatre, Dance; up to 6 credit hours from the School of Architecture and Planning may be included). 18
    Of the total of 67 credit hours in a. and b., at least 15 must focus on a cultural, psychological or political perspective particularly significant in the history, criticism, and theory of the media arts; these credit hours must be approved by the Cinematic Arts advisor. Possible focus areas include Latin American history, cultural studies, political theory, psychoanalytical criticism, and avant-garde movements in the arts. Various departments offer courses relevant to these focus areas. For example, students may combine courses from American Studies, Anthropology, Art and Art History, English, Foreign Languages and Literatures, History, Philosophy and psychology.
