Introduction

University Libraries

University Libraries (UL) serves the entire University community with quality materials and services, and supports users at all levels, from entering freshman to scholars working on highly advanced research topics. University Libraries is part of the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences which also houses the Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences degree-granting academic program.

University Libraries and Learning Sciences comprises four libraries:

Centennial Science and Engineering Library
Fine Arts and Design Library
Parish Memorial Library
Zimmerman Library

UL holdings include books (3 million), journals, serials, manuscripts, and digital resources. The UL also provides patrons with access to specialized equipment such as desktop or laptop computers, copiers, printers, free scanning, and microform readers and printers. UL electronic resources are available via the Internet by visiting the college Web site. UL special collections include rare books, manuscripts, photos, music, maps, art, pictorials, artifacts, and architectural plans. University Libraries is a Regional Depository for federal government publications as well as a depository for State of New Mexico publications and is a gateway for access to government information.

University Libraries reference services provide research and information assistance via our Ask a Librarian service at: (505) 277-9100, by text message: (505) 431-4711, online chat or email from the college Web site, and in person at each location. Workshops on using electronic information resources and course-related library instruction are provided. Special services for students with disabilities are provided in cooperation with the office of Accessibility Services.

Centennial Science and Engineering Library

The Centennial Science and Engineering Library serves the School of Engineering, plus biological, environmental, and earth and planetary sciences; physics and astronomy; mathematics; chemistry; psychology; and a number of research institutes. The library houses the Map and Geographic Information Center (MAGIC), which includes maps, images, aerial photos, and other cartographic and geographic resources. Centennial is located on two underground floors in the Electrical and Computer Engineering building complex.

Fine Arts and Design Library

The Fine Arts and Design Library supports curriculum in the fields of art and art history, photography, music, theatre, dance, interdisciplinary film and digital media, architecture, and landscape architecture. The Fine Arts and Design Library is located on the top floor of the School of Architecture and Planning building, George Pearl Hall.

William J. Parish Memorial Library for Business and Economics

Parish Library supports the curriculum of the Anderson School of Management and the Department of Economics, as well as the New Mexico Business community. Parish Library is located in the Anderson School of Management.

Zimmerman Library

Zimmerman Library houses book, periodical, and microform collections in the humanities, social sciences, and education, as well as housing the majority of the Government Documents Collection. A large number of computers and reservable study spaces are located in Zimmerman Library. The Indigenous Nations Library Program and Latin American Collections (in the Herzstein Latin American Reading Room) in Zimmerman Library provide special assistance with library collections. Zimmerman Library is located on the north side of Smith Plaza in the center of the main campus.

Zimmerman is consistently voted the best place to study on campus by students.

The Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections (CSWR), located in the West Wing of Zimmerman Library, is a major resource for the study of New Mexico, the Southwest and the American West. It is also a special handling facility for archives, manuscripts, historical photographs, architectural archives and rare books. The Anderson Reading Room is a service point for all of the collections. CSWR manages the digitization of a large number of special collections, making them freely available online to scholars across the world.

College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (ULLS)

The College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences is comprised of the University Libraries system of four libraries located on the central campus and the Organization, Information and Learning Sciences academic program (OILS). The UL supports student learning, faculty teaching, and research.

Organization, Information and Learning Sciences (OILS)

The Organization, Information and Learning Sciences program focuses on adult learning; the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of training; organization development; learning sciences; distance education; e-Learning; and instructional technology systems. Bachelor-, master-, and doctoral-level degrees are awarded in Organization, Information and Learning Sciences.
