The University of New Mexico–Taos became a branch campus on July 1, 2003. The Center operates a two-year post-secondary academic and career-technical program.

The University of New Mexico–Taos Campus seeks to deliver comprehensive community education. Consistent with this philosophy, it is the goal of the college to provide within available resources, programs and services of superior quality to meet the post-secondary education needs of all citizens of the community.

Mission Statement

The University of New Mexico–Taos branch campus serves students from northern New Mexico and the larger community with comprehensive educational opportunities in order to better prepare them to successfully participate in the world as educated, skilled, creative and responsible individuals. The Taos campus is an open-access, student-centered, affordable college that offers dual-credit, basic skills, transfer, career-technical, workforce training and lifelong learning courses and programs.

The goals that have been identified to fulfill the mission of UNM-Taos are to provide:

• a high-quality learning environment for all students;
• a wide range of academic programs culminating in the awarding of Associate degrees;
• a wide range of career-technical programs culminating in certificates and degrees for students who seek career-related employment in business, industry, government, and health care;
• a transfer program to include a wide range of general education and pre-professional courses which normally articulate with Baccalaureate degree-granting institutions;
• a diversified program of academic and career-technical courses to allow for the achievement of individual educational goals involving professional or technical skills development, professional recertification and/or personal interest;
• non-credit continuing adult education services to the community in the areas of business and professional training, personal development, cultural enrichment, and recreational activities;
• developmental education courses to acquire the basic verbal, quantitative, and cognitive skills necessary for a student's successful transition into college-level study;
• an array of student support services that include faculty and staff academic advisement and career counseling, diagnostic and placement testing, financial aid, and human development opportunities readily accessible to all students.

Information

Academic Transfer Program. The University of New Mexico–Taos is authorized to offer any 100- or 200-level course from The University of New Mexico Catalog (Main Campus). The University of New Mexico–Taos also offers career-technical courses that respond to the needs of students and the community.

Associate Degrees. Associate degrees are currently awarded in Digital Media Arts, Early Childhood Multicultural Education, Education, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fine Arts, General Studies, Liberal Arts (multiple areas of focus), Nursing, Pre-Business Administration, and Pre-Sciences (multiple areas of focus).

Certificate Programs. Certificate programs are currently offered in Applied Arts and Crafts, Business Computers, Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Community Health, Construction Technology, Culinary Arts, Dental Assisting Science, Digital Graphic Design, Emergency Medical Services EMT Basic, Emergency Medical Services EMT Intermediate, Entrepreneurship, Holistic Health and Healing Arts, Hospitality Management, Human Services, Information Technology, Integrative Massage Therapy, Nursing Assistant, Office Technologist, and Woodworking.

Center for Academic Success and Achievement. The Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) is designed to serve students by helping to strengthen their academic competencies as well as to insure their successful transition into college-level degree programs. This program offers course placement evaluation for students, introductory studies and tutoring to help students enter college at the most appropriate level and succeed once they get there. CASA also has a formal mathematics learning laboratory, writing studio, and technology center.

Special classes in English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE) and High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE) preparation are offered through the campus’ Taos Education and Career Center (TECC).

Community Education. The University of New Mexico–Taos offers non-credit, short-term courses for educational and personal enrichment, as well as workplace development training for area businesses.
